Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page.
MDS UK is a great charity and has been a massive support to me since my diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (a rare form of blood cancer) Christmas 2014.
MDS UK is the only charity in the UK providing vital support, information, advice and conducting research solely into Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) - a rarer blood cancer where the bone marrow fails to produce healthy blood cells, which greatly affects quality of life and the ability to carry out day to day tasks.
Living with MDS is a daily challenge - due to vastly reduced white blood cells, I have a compromised immune system, meaning that not only is the COVID vaccine's efficiency greatly reduced (not only for me but for all MDS sufferers), but something as simple as an insect bite could lead to sepsis. MDS also affects my red blood cells, leaving me with a debilitating fatigue which on some days can mean just walking up the stairs can take several attempts so the 20 for 20 challenges are very much a challenge in itself.
I aim to complete 20 challenges on 20 different days of varying difficulties, from Hula Hooping, indoor cycling to walking 5.7 miles (which is a mammoth task in itself for someone with MDS) - I hope you will not only support me with these challenges, but the wonderful Charity that we are doing it for.
Together blood cancers (MDS, Leukaemia, Polycythaemia vera, Myeloma, Lymphomas etc) are not only the 5th largest group of cancers in the UK, but the 3rd largest cause of cancer deaths.
MDS UK is a small charity that needs YOUR support to maintain their services !
