Story
Thank you for visiting the JustGiving page for Suzanne Barrows, Hazel Hopkinson, Lynda Hance, Sarah Vallelly and Suzanna Moore.
In October 2012, aged 38, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My diagnosis was a huge shock only around 1,500 of the 55,000 cases diagnosed each year are in women under 40, we have no family history of the disease and I was otherwise fit and healthy.
What followed was 7 months of hormone therapy, 2 operations, 6 cycles of chemotherapy and 20 blasts of radiotherapy. The hormone therapy will continue for the next 10 years.
None of this was fun and I could not have got through the last year without the great support of my family and friends (some of whom are joining me on this walk), my Young Breast Cancer Network facebook buddies(https://www.facebook.com/ManchesterYoungerWomensBreastCancerNetwork?ref=ts&fref=ts) and the amazing staff at the Royal Marsden who treated me.
I am very lucky that my local hospital is the Royal Marsden in Sutton. This meant that from my very first screening appointment I was treated by specialist staff who had access to the latest thinking and research. The research carried out by the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity helped save my life and saves the lives of many others each year. This is why we are fundraising for this charity.
When I finished my treatment in September it was a struggle for me to walk to the end of the road never mind 14 miles so just 6 months later this will be a huge challenge for me so your support is very much appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and please remember, check your breasts regularly and if you notice anything different, however small, then see your doctor.
