Story
On Wednesday 10th March, the University of Sussex Netball Club will be completing a 24 hour fitness challenge to raise money for a local domestic abuse charity whose work is vital now more than ever, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the start of the pandemic there has been a 7% increase in domestic abuse reports in the UK, this statistic is frightening and this has stemmed our motivation to support this charity.
What we will be doing
On Wednesday at 7pm we will be exercising every hour on the hour until 7pm on Thursday. We have chosen a 24 hour challenge because for those who experience domestic abuse such abuse could happen at any time of day or night. Completing this challenge on zero/to little sleep doesn’t compare to how mentally and physically exhausting domestic abuse is for victims.
During daylight hours (Thursday 6am-7pm) we will be running 13 miles, as there has been a significant fall in partner abuse for both men and women over the past 13 years. During darkness (Wednesday 7pm-Thursday 6am), for safety reasons, we will be completing a variety of challenging indoor exercises based upon domestic abuse statistics (please see the post below to see what each hour entails.)
Any donations would be greatly appreciated and help the girls' motivation to complete this challenge!!
Love from,
Sussex Netball x
