Story
The travel industry is on it’s knees, news reports last week stated figures of 40k redundancies in the UK travel industry alone, which is devastating to individuals, families and the businesses having to make incredibly tough decisions through necessity. I would like the government to look at providing a tailored approach for the industry as travel will be one of the last industries to recover.
With this in mind, I am proposing to virtually cycle the 874 miles from Lands end to John O’Groats starting in September and with two broken fingers! I’ll record my endeavours on Strava, so if you wish to follow my progress and cheer me on, please do so.
Travel Weekly and Abta LifeLine have teamed up to launch a charity appeal to support those in the travel industry whose lives have been adversely impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. The TravelCares campaign will raise essential funds to allow Abta LifeLine to help those who have lost their jobs or are facing other hardships as a result of the pandemic. Please donate whatever you can. It will make a big difference to the lives of many.£50 will give a family an essential food shop, £50 will pay for a colleague to go through our redeployment scheme (to help until travel fully recovers and opportunities open up again), £100 will give someone the expert debt, benefit and housing advice they may need and £300 will provide vital mental health support. But LifeLine does so much more. From crisis grants, to helping with priority bills (rent, utilities), providing essential household appliances to buying school uniform, we tailor our support to meet the needs of the individual or family.
