Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A group of us from SignHealth took part on the British 10K run on Sunday.  Conveniently for me, our 8 ft furry monkey was forced to walk it on account of his 3 ft long feet .... Naturally I just didn't think it was fair to leave him, so I'm afraid a jolly little walk around London it was for me too!!!

Whilst the challenge element of this event turned out to be fairly slim, it was not without drama... BBC team interviews, paramedics rushing around an overheated monkey, roadsweepers, Oliver's dissappointment at his hopeless mum etc etc.  HOWEVER, my prime purpose for taking part was to raise money for SignHealth, and therefore hope you will ignore my useless attempt and still support my very worthy cause... ...?!

SignHealth is a terrific charity, working to help vulnerable deaf adults and children in the UK and more recently in East Africa too.

I'm specifically raising money for Lizzy who is a lovely 18 yr old profoundly deaf girl. She has been the victim of severe domestic abuse and neglect throughout her life (she has never been to school - no one in authority even knew she existed). It's a complicated story but when she came to SignHealth she had all sorts of behavioural and emotional issues to deal with, as well as not being able to speak or sign.

SignHealth have truly been a lifeline to Lizzy.  The staff working with her (who are all deaf) have been great - they are sensitive, caring, enouraging and very professional - which means Lizzy is making huge strides.

I'm raising money so that the charity can continue to support Lizzy, not only throughout the complicated court proceedings where she will face her perpetrators, but with specialist therapy to help her deal with her trauma and importantly with a safe home for her until she is in a position to cope alone.

Email/call if you want to find out more. In the meantime I am aiming to raise £500 by the end of the week and hope you can help!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.  Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to SignHealth and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU - I really appreciate your support. S xx
