Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be running the Virgin London Marathon 2015 in aid of my Mum 'Jane Morton'.
I am by no means a 'runner' in fact some would say I am the least 'sporty' one out of all my family but St Helena Hospice is a charity close to my heart as that is where my mum spent the last week of her life!
My mum was a brave lady who fought cancer for 4 years but one thing that scared her was being sent to St Helena Hospice.... I suppose there has always been a stigma attached to hospices, they are morbid places where you just go to die! Our family found that St Helena's was the complete opposite, it was a place full of warmth and support.
The hospice enabled our family to be with mum right up to the end of her life, to allow friends to come and visit her and to ensure my Dad was able to be with her night and day until her last breath was taken. The staff were happy for us to come and go as we pleased which included a visit from her eldest son 'Gary' who flew in from Australia and numerous amounts of family and friends trapsing through the doors!
In summary they provided my Mum with the dignity she deserved when it came to losing her battle with cancer, she wasn't stuck lying in a ward restricted by visiting hours where everyone was too busy to give her any time instead she (and the whole family) were made to feel welcome and there was always someone to talk to, someone who would listen to your fears and concerns.
This is the reason I am setting myself this challenge - and believe me it is a challenge to me the 'unsporty' one - it is in memory of my dear Mum 'Jane Morton' and to thank 'St Helena Hospice' for that last week of my Mum's life!
Please donate... every little counts xxx
