Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Many young people sleep rough every night - in parks, shop doorways, under bridges, stairwells and worse. Others on buses or sofa
surfing in homes of strangers. They're escaping abuse, violence, gangs and fear. Many become homeless because it's safer to leave home than to stay. Others, like Angelica, have been brought up in care, moved from placement to placement, never having had a family of their own. Centrepoint provides more than 1,200 bed spaces for homeless young people who have nowhere else to turn. They focus on building confidence, improving their health and providing training, all aimed at seeing them move on in a positive way to live an independent life, and supporting them for six months afterwards.
My most recent book, Angelica Stone, tells the story of one such vulnerable young person. Angelica is a fictional character, of course, but during the course of writing and researching this story, I was mentally and emotionally drawn into the world in which someone like her would live and felt an overwhelming need to do something to help the hundreds of young people who, through no fault of their own, can end up struggling to survive yet another day lost, homeless and alone.
So please, help someone like Angelica Stone today. Our young people deserve more than this - they need a bed to sleep in tonight, they need food to eat, just the everyday things we take for granted. But most of all they need to know that someone cares - they need hope - and they deserve a future!
