This is a first for me and not something I normally do.
However here goes......
The other half and I are going to complete a 20 mile charity horse ride on the 31st August in Newmarket. This ride will include a section on the actual race track and is a charity ride for Macmillan. In 2013, 340 riders took part and £25,000 was raised for Macmillan. It is hoped that turnout and funds raised will be similar if not better this year.
Macmillan Cancer Support, as most of you will know, improves the lives of people affected by cancer and provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support.
Some stats suggest that more than 1 in 3 people are affected by cancer. I had no idea the stats were that high until late in 2012, when someone dear to me was diagnosed with the big C. Life certainly took an unexpected turn and I was exposed to a whole new world....... a world I had never really known about. The experience of knowing someone affected is sobering and it is very tough watching them go through treatment. Feelings of anger, sadness, rage, hope are all jumbled up. Not being able to control or influence the outcome is frightening and extremely frustrating.
As I have 2 horses (one an ex polo pony and one an ex racehorse), I decided that doing a 20 mile charity ride for Macmillan would be appropriate. This charity does some fantastic work and I am keen to give something back.
Contra to beliefs completing a 20 mile horse ride will be extremely challenging as both horse and rider need to be fit. To add to the challenge my ex racehorse will think she is 3 again and will want to race everyone, making my task of keeping her under control all the harder. The other has never seen a racecourse, but is extremely fast and will be ridden by my other half who is a novice. You get the drift.... I have work to do.
Thanks in advance to all those who donate.
