Story
PONT is a small Welsh charity making a big difference in the region of Mbale in Eastern Uganda, I will be raising money to support the PONT Livelihoods project. PONT's Livelihoods projects help farmers in poor rural villages to support their own families (especially families who are caring for orphans or vulnerable children.) Rather than give short term aid, people are given the tools to increase their income in a sustainable way.
- Livelihoods has set up self help groups of 20 to 30 people and train them in savings and credit, goal setting, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and business promotion. They can save but also borrow money to set up businesses or produce more crops.
- Livelihoods gives the families that need them most a female goat and a male goat to a trained goat supervisor in each village. Families can breed the goats and sell the kids. Goat milk is also a valuable source of protein for the children. In addition goats produce manure which can be used to produce more vegetables to eat or more coffee to sell.
PONT is all about reducing the impact of poverty in Mbale. Please help PONT to continue to improve lives.
