Story

Thank you for visiting my Justgiving web page.  As you know, I am running in the 2009 London Marathon on 26th April.  I shall be very grateful for your support and so will a large number of people who will benefit from your generosity.

This will be the third occasion that I have run the London marathon and this year I am seeking sponsorship for the London charities that are supported by the Charitable Funds of the Worshipful Company of Butchers.

The Worshipful Company of Butchers is one of the oldest of the City of London Livery Companies, having a history going back over 1000 years.  Since its formation the Company has achieved an impressive record of charitable giving.  In particular it supports causes providing help for those who are disabled or disadvantaged, especially those living in boroughs adjoining the City of London.  In addition,  help is given to those needy folk within the meat industry who have now fallen on hard times.

In recent years those benefitting have included the Treloar Trust, a charity providing education, care, therapy, medical support and independence training to young people with physical disabilities, and the premature baby unit at St Bartholomew’s hospital.  Funds are also donated to many smaller charities which are often overlooked as they are overshadowed by the larger national charities.  It is the Livery’s policy to help as many as possible.  To many a donation can provide a lifeline and is really appreciated by those in difficulty. Your money will go a long way to support their work.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way for you to sponsor me and if you are a U.K.taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Please help me to raise very needed funds for these worthy causes.  Thank you for your support.
