Story
My only child, Kallum Watkinson, fought an aggressive form of bone cancer for 28 months. He went through 3 different chemo treatments, radiation at 3 different sites and a hemi-pelvectomy where they removed two thirds of his pelvis and also did a full hip replacement. He never complained once, and on many occasions surprised his medical team by still going out with his friends partying, driving and having holidays. He was determined to live every day to his best and he certainly did. I am so proud of him. He died at the age of 21, on the same day that he celebrated his engagement to his childhood sweet heart Poppie Pattison, with many friends by his side. He fought till the very end and did it his way! Poppie and Kall had been together for 6 and 1/2 years. Anyone that knows Poppie will realise how far out of her comfort zone this challenge will be. I am amazed by the strength, determination and focus Poppie has shown during Kalls treatment and after his death. Kall would be absolutely speechless if he knew we were both taking part in this challenge. I am sure that he will be by both of our sides through the trek in Cambodia.
St Johns Hospice has continued to operate throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, delivering its vital services throughout the communities all while not being able to operate fundraising operations as usual. The money raised through this Trek will allow our Hospice to keep caring!
