Story
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I have finally got my backside into gear and signed up for a challenge for 2014. I ended up not doing one last year and really missed that physical goal to work towards and the challenge of pushing myself to do something outside my comfort zone.
I have decided to keep with the hills/mountain type theme following my 5 Peaks Challenge and arranged to go to Peru in August, to Trek the Lares Valley from Cusco to Machu Picchu. This is a total of a 50km journey through forgotten, windswept valleys, wild mountain passes and past tiny isolated Andean villages. Those of you who know me well will know I detest heights and through my research I have discovered there are some 'high and hairy' parts to the trek which I know I will struggle with, but not let them get the better of me! I think I will also need to think up a fun twist for this challenge, not sure what that will look like yet, but watch this space!
As always, I am doing the challenge for charity. After long consideration I have decided to raise money for a cancer charity (always very dear to my heart) and to carry on the spirit of my late father's work where he regularly raised money for the wonderful charity CLIC Sargent. I personally know people who do an incredible job volunteering for this charity and the impact of their work on young people unfortunate enough to find themselves taking on the challenge of cancer, is tremendous. I have set myself an ambitious goal of 3000 pounds for CLIC Sargent and am confident that I will, with your help, be able to raise this amount. I have lots of fundraising events planned and have now set up a 'Just Giving' Page where online donations can be made.
It would be wonderful if you were able to spare a couple of pounds (no matter how small an amount) and encourage me to get on with my training (have made a very good start this month). I would like to sincerely thank you for your help and will keep you posted on my progress.
Many thanks for your time, support and encouragement
