Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the Yorkshire marathon on Sunday 16 October 2022.
So this is it!... I am running my first marathon at 50... in loving memory of my amazing and precious Mum who died last year of advanced pancreatic cancer. She died just 10 weeks from her first symptoms and 5 weeks after getting her devastating diagnosis. To her I give huge love and immeasurable thanks for all that she was, and for being the steadfast , loving and inspiring, positive role model that I have always known her to be throughout my life. This one’s for her ❤️
I'm championing and raising much needed funds for 2 charities, for positive impact as I pace the miles!! Pancreatic cancer UK and a local day centre for the elderly in the community where I work, John Bellany Day Centre https://johnbellanydaycentre.org.uk (named after this great artist born locally). Both of these charities do amazing work and are causes dear to my heart:-

Taking on Pancreatic Cancer. It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case. Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Let’s help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.
John Bellany Day Centre's objective is the maintenance and improvement of the quality of life for older people who live independently in the local area. . The Day Centre is the hub of the elderly community - it gives people a place to make new friends and keep in touch with old ones. Activities help people learn new skills and hobbies, rediscover old ones, build confidence and have fun. It also provides a little bit of help and support and ensure that each service user has a nutritious meal.
The last 18 months have been the toughest chapter that I have ever faced in my personal life with multiple close bereavements, huge personal losses, illness and family challenges all at once as we were coming out of Covid lockdown. I am beyond thankful for my faith and for family, friends, neighbours and supportive colleagues who have been there for me along the way on this bumpy and vulnerable wilderness journey; helping me to keep perspective and regain some strength. You all know who you are - thank you!! This is an opportunity for me to give back, and to bring positive impact to many in need.
This run is a huge personal challenge for me! As many of you will know, I am no athlete.…but I have grown my running from an all time low after illness…and I am one determined being!! It won’t be speedy or in style… but I will give it my best effort! Let’s make some good quality lemonade out of the lemons that have been thrown at me in recent times. If you would like to support these great causes and encourage me through this, then please give big or small gifts to the above charities for their ongoing vital support work in the precious lives of many. I am hugely grateful…. And may even run faster?!?!!!!
Let's help to beat pancreatic cancer and loneliness.
Together we can do this! THANK YOU!!!
