12.9.09:
Please sponsor me to swim the distance of the English Channel (22 miles) in my local pool over a 12 week period from 12.9.09 - Dec 09, and raise money for Aspire and people with spinal cord injuries. That's 1416 lengths in total of a 25 metre pool!
I've done a 'channel swim' fundraiser before - I even have a channel swim towell! After coming back from Australia in January this year I have not done any exercise really and now it's time I got off my backside. I love swimming. This charity is excellent - I can get fit and raise money for it at the same time.
I spent 10 years of my life since the age of 5 swimming for the March Marlins swimming club. My Mum was a swimming teacher so swimming was a big part of our lives. Recent back problems mean I can't swim much breaststroke, so I mainly swim front crawl and backstroke - no way am I fit enough to do butterfly - but I may for a laugh if you sponsor me! How about I try to do a whole length for more money?! There's a challenge! Sponsor me for the extra chance of seeing me swallow half the pool and attempting to look cool, not. Add a message on your sponsor to say so.
The last time I did this swimathon, I was quite lazy and left myself 2 weeks to swim 800 lengths, but I did it. At my fittest, I can swim 100 lengths in an hour - but I'm no way that fit now - this time I will pace myself properly.
I've got other friends involved so now the race is on - who will raise the most money and who will complete the 1416 lengths first!
