Story
I am joining a group of over 200 people from The Queens Park/Kensal Rise area to raise money for local charities, by participating in the Blenheim Sprint Relay Triathlon on Sep 11th.
Every mum I know has a unique story of her life before and after motherhood. Among the few things that took a backseat for me, were my personal fitness and love for outdoor running, cycling, and hiking. With 2 monkeys in a span of 3 yrs., it’s only taken me this long to confidently embark on my first fitness challenge post mumhood. I will (try to) complete 2/3 legs of the relay sprint triathlon, cycling for 20 kms, and running for 5 kms, alongside the very lovely Sarah Songen, who is my relay partner in the swimming leg! What better way to do it than to raise money for a cause that deeply resonates with me - empowering women of migrant status.
9Kitchen is a unique community enterprise that provides an income to migrant refugee women facing challenges in accessing the labour market. Many do not have formal qualification, are not proficient in English, have to look after their young children and cannot afford childcare, or are just subject to discrimination.
You can read more about 9Kitchens and get a delicious lunch or dinner every week that also supports local women here - https://www.bompureasianfood.com/9kitchens-womenrefugees.
Needless to say, no amount is big or small, and all the money will go towards developing and expanding 9Kitchens ability to provide sustained employment to a greater number of women.
A heartfelt thank you for your support, and wish us luck !
