Story

My amazing & gorgeous Dad, Virinder Kumar Sondhi was diagnosed with mixed cognitive & vascular Dementia over 4yrs ago... unfortunately his condition has deteriorated and accelerated more so with the restrictions of crappy Covid. This is a degenerative condition  and what most don't appreciate, is, that it has the highest mortality rate in the UK, far surpassing heart conditions and cancer. So why is it that we don't know enough about it? My eldest daughter asked how can that happen Mummy.. I had to explain to her that your limbs can stop working, you soon forget how to swallow - this is harsh to hear I'm sure, but, real and true!

Each day with my dad is a blessing 🙏🏻 I dread the day where he questions who I am to him, but, know it is near. To see the fear which he holds in his eyes until he recalls your presence, is soul destroying, but, it is not his fault, it is his condition, which is stealing him from right before our eyes!  I am thankful for every memory I make with him and for every day that he is aware of me, my brother, sister, our respective partners in crime, his 4 beautiful granddaughters and our presence in each others lives. Anyone who has had the pleasure to know my Dad, I'm sure would agree, that he was always the life and soul of the party, with a can do & determined attitude - regularly the go to for many!

We walk with my Dad everyday and as a family make him our priority - I want to give back and do what I can, to help research... I told him I was walking & that it may not help him and his reply was "it's OK, it may help others Ang".... he may not remember but, I'll tell him again and again... They may not be able to help my Dad, but, we hope they soon have a breakthrough in order to help others in the future.

Accompanied by my super team of 7, I'm walking 7KMs but, would walk 100,000KMs if it meant I could take this away from my Dad... I'm in the worst shape of my life, but, if there was ever a catalyst to fix up, this is it!!!!!

Please give generously, we all live a privileged life and from the bottom of my heart I appreciate your support... Bring on the 26th September and if you want to walk with me as part of the VKS Squad, please do! My team is 7 strong already - Guj, Kiran S, Sonia G, Sara, Kiran M and our youngest recruit, Maya!

And, if you have a spare 30mins, go see him, he loves a chat... For us, Dad seeing a friendly face, someone making an effort with him and seeing those memories rekindle is lovely, especially for him. He still has his cheeky smile 😜

With heartfelt thanks in advance for your support 🙏🏻 Ang xxx
