Story
Get ready to pedal for a good cause, folks!
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NHS, cyclists in Kingston are taking on the Ride for 75 challenge, all to raise money for Kingston Hospital Charity. The goal is to raise £35,000 for a new, secure bike storage facility for hospital staff who rely on cycling to get to work.
With the support of local cycling clubs, this event is going to be a blast!

Many of the staff rely on cycling to get to work and the current facility is not a secure unit, resulting in staff bikes getting stolen on a regular basis.
The new secure unit will be available to all hospital staff and will include 78 bays for bike parking, which will be available 24 hours per day for staff on shift work.
Tracey Shaw, Fundraising Manager at Kingston Hospital Charity says:
“We’re incredibly grateful to Kingston Wheelers and the cycling community for organising this event to celebrate our NHS milestone birthday. A safe and secure bike unit will make a huge difference to our staff, many of whom are exhausted as they cope with huge patient-backlogs. Projects like this could not happen without the support of our community so a heartfelt thanks to everyone involved and supporting the event.”
All riders are encouraged to wear the Sigma Sport kit and have RIDEFOR75 as part of their on screen name.
Cyclists are also being encouraged to create their own version of the challenge, whether that’s riding 75 miles for the first time, or lapping Richmond Park on a Boris bike.
Rafal Kukla, Founder of Surrey Cycling Club says:
"We're excited to assist and express our gratitude. We take great pride in supporting Kingston Hospital and the fantastic efforts of its dedicated staff."
Surrey Cycling Club members will be riding on Saturday 25th of February to Nettlebed Chilterns - The Cheese Shed. The distance from Weybridge to Nettlebed Chilterns and back is 125KM / 77 Miles! Which is the perfect distance to complete this challenge.
Our members will have some challenging hills to go throught. Good long ride up and over the Chilterns via Marlow / Fingest and the tricky climb through the affectionately named "Rat Hole" at Turville.
Individual donations can be made on the Kingston Hospital Charity page.
