Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
SURF is delighted that Minster Law Serious Injury Department has chosen SURF as one of their charities to support.
Due to the current lock down restrictions Minster Law decided to set themselves a virtual end to end challenge (the equivalent of Land’s end to John O’Groats and back again!!) – members of Minster Law, Surf and the Nurses at Pinderfields Spinal Unit are going to attempt this challenge over a two week period from the 3-16 August. We will be running, walking, biking and using wheelchairs to complete the challenge. All money raised will go to the Spinal Injuries Recreational Fund (S.U.R.F) and will be put towards the reunion dinner which will now take place in summer 2021. Thank you

SURF (Spinal Unit Recreational Fund) is a registered charity (reg charity no 1174099) based at the Yorkshire Region Spinal Injuries Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.
We are a small charity consisting of ex spinal patients, current staff, medical professionals connected with the spinal unit. We are supported by a number of volunteers and relatives of the Yorkshire region spinal community.
Last year SURF was shortlisted and nominated for an award with the National Diversity Awards.
Each year we raise funds and use these to provide a varied and extensive number of events that take place both on and off the spinal unit. These events and activities promote and assist newly injured / spinal issue patients to come to terms with their disability. Showing by example that although different life can still be fun and active despite a spinal issue.
Our events include trips to the following: - the seaside, the cinema, Beverley Races, Kingsley Greyhound Stadium, and local dining restaurants. We provide over 12 fun activities each year and pay for a meal out, we also pay inpatients their families and volunteers expenses. If required we provide an adapted coach to transport our benefactors to our events, many of our service users are wheelchair dependant and can only attend if such is provided. We also arrange events on the ward, providing a meal such as fish & Chips or pizza, these evenings are very popular and are supported by current in-patients families and friends. As part of the evening we hold a quiz, fun games and activities.
We also have ex-patients who attend our events to offer peer support, again showing by example that a good quality of life is achievable despite the issues of a spinal cord injury or issue.
Thank you on behalf of Minster Law and SURF.
