Introducing Team Theo:
Alex Chamming's and Graeme Wallbank who will be taking on the London Marathon in 2021.
Graeme Wallbank (rowed 26km), Simon Moffet (cycled 26km) and Alex Chamming's (ran 2.6 miles) who each took on the 2.6 Challenge on 26 April 2020 (instead of being at the London Marathon).
Amanda Chamming's, Laura Mountford, Paul Gaunt, Tara Rogers, Laura McLaughlin, Johanna and Dan Rawling, Mark Jenkins, Elaine Auyoung, Mark Atkinson, Dominic Harris, Lisa Brown, Georgia Church and Joanna Buttivant who took on the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 13 October 2019.
Rachel Tomlinson who swam a marathon - a mile every day before work for 26 days between 13 October and Theo's first birthday.
Neil Wallbank who walked the 27km Wolfgangsee Rundweg all in one day and Grace Chenery who ran the Wolfgangsee 5km Panorama race.
Some of us are runners, most are not, but we have all come together to help raise some money to celebrate 150 years of Evelina and to thank them for everything they did for SuperBaby Theo.
Theo's Story
Theo has a big story to tell. He was born at Lewisham Hospital, but unfortunately was very poorly. He was only a couple of hours old when he was blue-lighted with his Dad in the early hours of the morning by the Children's Acute Transport Service to Evelina.
Theo was greeted by a large team at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) where he was diagnosed with Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Drainage - a rare congenital heart defect. He was rushed into emergency heart surgery at around 8 hours old.
Although the heart surgery went well, Theo had a number of other post-op complications (too many to describe here!) and at one point we were told it did not look as though Theo was going to make it, and asked to prepare for the worst. However, Theo is a determined little SuperBaby and fought his way through.
After spending a couple of weeks in the PICU where Theo made lots of lovely friends, he was then transferred to the High Dependency Unit on the Savannah Ward where he spent another couple of weeks, before being discharged. Theo has since been making good progress at home - although he still has plenty of opportunities to visit the friends he made at all his follow-up appointments. Each visit reminds us how lucky we are to have Theo with us here today - we'll never be able to thank Evelina for everything they did for us, but we hope that the money we raise can go towards helping them save other precious lives.
Where does your money go?
We would like to split the money we raise between the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and The Cardiology Kids.
The goal of the Cardiology Kids is to bring together 150 Cardiology families to raise £150,000 for the Cardiology Team as a legacy of the 150th birthday of the Evelina London Children's Hospital. £150,000 is a massive target: with 150 families on board, we can achieve it easily!
The money raised by The Cardiology Kids goes straight into the 'Children's Heart Fund' at the Evelina and it is ring-fenced specifically for Cardiology care priority needs under the direction of Dr Bell. Basically, it hits the NHS front line where it makes a difference and helps fund the medical equipment for children with poorly hearts.
