Story
100km. 1 day. 2 teams of 4. The 'Super 8' needs your help!
When Knighty contacted me to tell me that he was putting a strong team together to tackle a 100km walk in a single day I wished him good luck in finding 7 mugs stupid enough to sign up for that - then I realised he was actually asking me!
Reluctantly, and with no research whatsoever, I agreed and looked forward to finding out who else was on the ironically named 'Super 8' team - the list of misfits did little to inject me with any confidence... Quinntang, Bradders, Big Kev, Tommy C, Jammy and George. A group of men of varying ages, fitness levels, good looks and banter levels - but all committed to this huge challenge for a fantastic cause.
Knowing how unfit I and indeed most of the 'Super 8' are (apart from George who is about 14 and Big Kev who runs 100km just to get milk a few times a week) it was a good idea to try and get in some kind of good shape before September. Our "training" has already started with a decent 20 mile trek across the Wiltshire ridgeway on a crisp April morning and a more recent Sunday morning climb up Pen Y Fan, soon to be followed by a chunk of the South Downs route and no doubt some other ridiculously brutal treks that most of us will hate (by most I mean me).
We are all taking this challenge seriously and our aim is to maintain an average 3.5mph pace throughout the 100km. This will help us achieve our goal of reaching the finish line within 20 hours. This will be made easier thanks to our fantastic volunteer support team - Danny Barry and Wes Taylor. Each will support their team of 4 throughout the entire challenge - foot rubs, Maccy D runs, hip flask top ups as well as other important tasks. A big thanks to them!
Anyone that knows us will know that we aren't built for this, but they also know that the photos and running commentary that will fly across social media will be well worth any donation given! Between our two teams of 4 we want to raise as much cash for Oxfam as possible so please dig deep and we will do our best to give shouts out to those that have supported us - when we are not blowing out of our a**es and praying for it to all be over.
Thanks all
'Super 8'
