Story

This page has been set up by Sunfield's Appeals Department and any donation you make will be processed by Justgiving and paid directly to the charity.

Your donation will help Sunfield to carry out major refurbishment and alteration works to residential accommodation for children with complex learning needs who live at Sunfield 24hours/day, 52 weeks of the year.

We have now completed two houses - Birch and Orchard - and we are now raising funds for the third House - Elm - which will be followed by Bracken House. Please help us by making a donation today.

Birch House was completed at a cost of £294,000. This included major building works to move bathrooms, enlarge corridors, upgrade services, replace windows etc. and we are delighted that we were able to fully fund the project through donated income.

Orchard House has also been fully funded through donations and the work was completed at a cost of £163,000. This included a small extension and changes to the internal layout of the building to transform seven small bedrooms into five much larger bedrooms. The windows were also replaced, there were upgrades to the services and the whole building underwent a full refurbishment.

Elm House will be the next house to be refurbished and we are currently raising funds for this project. This building will be reconfigured and refurbished to provide individualised living and learning accommodation for higher needs students. The building will comprise four zones, three of these zones will each provide a living and learning area, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/dining area for one student and the fourth zone will provide a shared sensory room, seating and waiting area, laundry and a staff office. We also plan to replace and relocate the heating boilers into the attic area, freeing up valuable space on the ground floor and we are also looking at the feasibility of including solar heating panels on the roof. When the building work is complete, the house will need to be fully furnished and equipped. We therefore envisage that this project will cost in excess of £200,000 including all building works, solar panels and new heating systems, professional fees, vat, furniture, fittings and equipment.

Bracken House is of similar design and age to Orchard House and will also require additional works and furnishing, so we have also set a budget of £185,000 including all building works, professional fees, new furniture, equipment and vat.

Please help us to continue our refurbishment programme
