Story
Update - I’m now running Royal Parks Half marathon October 2023 and London marathon April 2024!
Until recently, I had no idea of the wonderful work The National Deaf Children's Society do, however that all changed with the arrival of our gorgeous nephew Rupert, who was born with profound hearing loss in both ears. It was a complete shock to the whole family, who have no history of deafness, and there was no sign during my sisters-in-law’s
pregnancy. Now 1 year old, Rupert can sign many things including three of his favourite things, his cuddly toy ‘bunny’, ‘orange’ and ‘milk’.
As a family we are all learning sign language and our boys Oscar and Ollie are loving learning their special 'Rupert Language' so that we can all communicate together.
This year, as a family we are all under taking different challenges to fundraise for this wonderful charity who have been a huge support to Rupert, his parents, family and friends. They provide information, advice and a community to share stories and help.
From running events to walking across counties, we are all fundraising in different ways and I thought that a great way for me personally to fundraise would be to donate £1 from every sale of flowers from the stand this year towards this cause. I hope that I can not only spread the joy of locally grown flowers but also raise awareness to a charity that is now so close to our hearts.
UPDATE 13/3/2023 - I have got a place to run for the NDCS at the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London on October 8th 2023. It's a long time since I did any serious running but I just need to get training and have fun while doing it!.
UPDATE 23/6/23 - Well this has escalated rather! I’ve just been given a charity place to run the London marathon 2024 as part of my fundraising campaign!! If you see me out running looking tired please give me a little cheer!
I am using this page as a way of keeping track of fundraising and also hoping that many of you will want to donate as well.
I would love to exceed the target I have set for the 2023 growing
season. Thank you for helping me support this fantastic charity.
