Cat Queen Appeal
Campaign by Cats Protection (RCN 203644, SC037711)
Did you know pregnant cats are called queens? This summer we are asking you to help support our cat queens to give them the extra care they need to give birth safely and be looked after, along with their kittens, before we find them their new homes.

Story

With many of us celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s extraordinary 70 year reign, we’d like to let you know about the queens we look after that need a lot of care and love.

Did you know pregnant cats are called queens?
This summer we are asking you to help support our cat queens to give them the extra care they need to give birth safely and be looked after, along with their kittens, before we find them their new homes.

Take Vienna, our most recent queen brought into us after straying all year near a warehouse. The staff had been giving her titbits of food until they realised she was pregnant and didn’t want her seeking shelter and giving birth in a dangerous environment.  Fortunately for Vienna, they contacted us at Cats Protection and a very pregnant Vienna was brought into our care.

At no more than a year old herself, Vienna did not do well as a mum, losing one kitten very soon after birth, a further two a week later and a fourth at 3 weeks despite the best efforts of volunteers to save them. Their poor condition and birth defects could have been for many reasons, but Vienna not having sufficient food and care in place is the main suspect.

Vienna’s remaining 3 kittens are now doing well but are being hand reared as Vienna was struggling to care for them correctly and had stopped feeding them.

Vienna, is a young queen and was inexperienced, so needed extra care not only for herself but for her kittens.

If only she had found care and love earlier, some of what Vienna went through may have been avoided.

The care we need to give our queens not only stretches volunteers time, but also our purse strings that little bit further also as the queens and kittens need additional support throughout the pregnancy and beyond. With so many queens being brought into care at this time of year, we need to raise some much needed funds to help us with supporting the queens and their kittens.

We know that times are hard, we know that everyone is feeling the pinch, but we ask if you could help us continue our work by donating any amount.

Just £1 is enough to feed a queen for one day, £5 would help us buy specialist milk formula, £10 could go towards a vet check.

To donate to our appeal please click on the Give Now button and follow the instructions.

All money raised from this JustGiving appeal will go towards supporting us in helping cats and kittens in the Swale area.

You can be sure that with your help, we will continue to celebrate our queens!

Thank you for your support!
