Story
~ Today, we launch our Oldies Club Summer Appeal. We understand that times are not the easiest and that not every dog lover will be able to donate at this time, but you can donate from £2 upwards via the above link and we hope that as many of our supporters as possible will support our appeal :-).
We have set a target of £15,000 for this appeal, which would make a significant and very welcome contribution to our ongoing expenses, which were, as examples, over £23,000 in May 2022 and over £16,000 in June 2022, with the vast majority of costs being veterinary care/medications.
Monty was welcomed into Oldies Club care when his previous human moved and couldn't take him with them. We have so far spent over £765 on vet bills for this little one, to take care of his itchy skin, test some lumps and try to help his tummy.
Jack and Jade were welcomed into Oldies Club care when their previous human's ill health meant they could no longer care for them. We are so glad we have been able to keep them together. We have spent almost £2,400 on this lovely pair of dogs since they came into rescue, to help take care of them and prepare them for their forever home.
Bruno was welcomed into Oldies Club care when his previous human could no longer take care of him. We have arranged for his chronic skin condition and ear infection to be treated, costing us over £1,000 in vet fees to date.
Rachel was welcomed into Oldies Club care, providing her with a loving forever foster home. The charity has spent over £8,000 in vet fees to take care of her, following her cancer diagnosis in 2021! Rachel is one of our sponsor dogs, meaning she will remain in a loving Oldies Club foster home for the rest of her life, while we cover her vet bills.
27 August: Very sadly, when he had seemed to be doing so well and making such progress in his foster home, Snubz had to be put to sleep at the end of August 2022, when he took a turn for the worse and had to be rushed to the vet, due to a tumour on his face. Everyone at Oldies Club, especially his wonderful fosterer, was devastated, but the kindest thing to do was to say goodbye. Rest easy, Snubz, you'll never be forgotten.
Over the coming weeks, we will introduce you to some of the dogs we have been caring for, starting with the lovely Snubz, who came into Oldies Club care a few months ago, bringing with him a very sad tale, as he had been living in a garden for six months, following the death of his owner :-(. Although he obviously was given some food during those months, it clearly wasn’t nearly enough, nor the regular daily meals we all lovingly provide for our own beloved dogs. Coupled with the impact of losing his person and then living outside, alone, for months, which we all find utterly heartbreaking, this had all had a negative impact on Snubz’s overall health and wellbeing :-(
Snubz, thank goodness, finally found his way into the care of another rescue, which provided initial sanctuary before he was welcomed into an Oldies Club foster home. Snubz required surgery and has received ongoing veterinary treatment and support since coming into our care and we have so far spent over £4,000 on his veterinary bills. His ongoing health worries have concerned us all, but we are very pleased that he has recently gained several much-needed kilos in weight and is eating more. Following his recent vet check, we are all hopeful his body is healing - something we feel can even be observed in the contrast between these photos, which were taken a few weeks apart. We all felt rather emotional, seeing his smiling face while he relaxed on his snuggly bed at his foster home this weekend, and very much appreciate all the TLC he’s receiving in foster.
As a responsible volunteer-run rescue and registered charity, Oldies Club works hard to ensure that it has the finances available to provide for the dogs in its care, who often arrive in need of extensive veterinary examinations, treatment and medication before they can be adopted, along with the dogs we care for as part of our sponsor dog scheme, covering their veterinary bills for life. To help enable us to continue welcoming older dogs into our care, we would be very grateful if you would make a donation to our Summer Appeal today.
Thank you,
The dogs and volunteers at Oldies Club
