Albie’s Story 💙
My first born son Albie when he was 18 days old became unwell, temperature was 38.9 which is high for a newborn and was very irritable, I called 111 went through there assessment they said doctor will call within 6 hours by the time they called me back I had settled albie and was 2 in the morning so I didn’t answer. Just after that Albie woke up screaming from top of his longs and nothing would stop him (very unusual for him) well so I thought only knowing him 18 days and obviously being first time mum I know babies do cry could of been a number of things but I just knew he was as not well, after 3 hours of trying to stop him crying I decided I’d call 111 and they made me take him straight up to the hospital, he had just stopped and Harry said just leave him get some sleep see how he is in an hour, I knew I couldn’t risk it and something was telling me to take him. So off we went expecting to be sent straight home within 5 minuets of us walking through them doors they knew he had Sepsis! No one told us and being new parents we were petrified he was taking from my arms straight onto a resuscitation table where 2 children doctors and 4 nurses where with him and they were not aloud to leave his side we were just sat in the corner watching all these professionals panicking trying to save our baby! I was living a real life nightmare I’d never even heard of sepsis didn’t have a clue, I knew it was serious because they told us to prepare for the worst! After hours of waiting for test results and getting Albie stable we were finally aloud near him and he had just one doctor with him at all times! Albie was so strong and brave he came out fighting and we are so lucky to have such a healthy little boy! The sepsis caused meningitis which everyone knows can lead to such terrible life changing illnesses, resulting to Albie having cannulas all over his body including his head to have antibiotics for 3 whole weeks everyday I had to take him to hospital same time each day to be hooked up to a machine!! All this because of Group B streptococcus, I knew I had it and was given antibiotics during labour but Albie still caught late on set group b strep! If the hospital had swabbed him when he was born we would of caught it before all that happened!

I am taking part in London landmarks half marathon to help raise money for the GBSS, to help them save babies and also to help raise awareness of the outcome that people think will never happen!
Every penny counts and will go towards saving babies lives.
Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. On average in the UK, at least-two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection -one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and-one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities – physical, mental or both.Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
