We support those bereaved by suicide to navigate grief and open the conversation

Story

The Selkie challenge is a 2.1km swim upstream in the river Thames at 4am - the morning of the Henley Royal Regatta.

We're taking on this challenge in memory of Cindy; Milla's sister, Amelia's mother and Georgie's aunty! We lost Cindy to suicide in March 2011 and since then Amelia has set up the Charity Suicide&Co to support those who lose loved ones to suicide.

Suicide&Co's aim is to start a conversation about suicide-related grief. They provide free-to-access counselling to those in England and Wales and also offer a helpline open Monday-Friday 9am-9pm as well as lots of digital resources on their website!

Since their launch in July 2020 the charity has raised over £630,000 and has delivered over 3,300 counselling sessions, and supported 635 people struggling with bereavement in their services, last year alone.

With demand flooding, they're in the process of recruiting another 40 counsellors! The charity is going from strength to strength and it is our aim to help them have an even greater impact.

The power of conversation is central to our concept so we will use a variety of initiatives to spark conversations, encouraging open dialogues around bereavement from suicide. We will also provide counselling grants to those bereaved through suicide. Opening the conversation to remove the stigma.
