Story

Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support. Most of us know of someone who has been troubled by heart problems and I have had quite a few close family members affected. My brother Keith died of a heart attack aged 39, my eldest daughter Lucy was diagnosed with a hole in the heart aged 19 and had to have an operation to fix it. My nephew Joshua was in GOSH for 6 months attached to a Berlin Heart and on the heart transplant list until his own heart miraculously became stronger to allow him home and come off the list. He will always be on medication though. All this before his 1st birthday! That leaves me; at the age of 47 I suffered with atrial fibrillation and went on to end up with a pacemaker being fitted. At the same time I also found out I have a congenital heart defect which does now explain why in the past, and still now, I have found certain exercise/sport difficult. So this is part of the reason I am attempting this triathlon. It is a massive challenge  for me given the circumstances, (if only to get in and out of a wetsuit!), but also I wanted to show that you don't have to give up on exercise/sport/challenges if you have certain health issues as long as you seek out medical advice and are given the go ahead to try. Hopefully I will be doing this triathlon with a few others (must-tri-harders), we have to do 400m open water swim, 20K bike ride then 5K run. It takes place at Eton Dorney (the Olympic rowing lake). It is an all nations triathlon so i get to represent my country so this is my Olympic challenge! It's only thanks to support from people like you that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures for heart patients. Every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks so much #determined lady
