Story

This year I have decided to take on two Ultra Challenges!!!

It is nearly time for the second of my challenges for the year! Next Saturday 9th September I will be stepping out on the Thames Path Ultra. This challenge has the nickname of the “foot shredder” due to the terrain, 100km of almost constant concrete. Hopefully my feet will stand up and not give way to too many blisters 🤞

On June 10th I am taking part in the Lake District 100km (62 miles!) continuous hike. The route starts in Kendal and follows an
anticlockwise loop before returning to Kendal via Garburn Pass, Ambleside and Windermere. There are some tough hills on the route, but the beautiful scenery will be a wonderful reward at the top.

Then on 9th September I step out on the Thames Path Challenge
100km continuous hike. This is in complete contrast to the hills of the Lake District, but a chance to follow the Thames on a route alongside many historical places, from Putney Bridge, through Richmond, Hampton Court, Runnymede to Windsor and on to the finishing line at Henley.

These are both continuous challenges, no overnight sleep, just stopping long enough to change socks, eat quickly and then set off again. I anticipate that I will be walking for around 26-28 hours before I reach the finish line.

“WHY?” I hear you ask! Good question…. I love the enormity
of these challenges, watching the sun set, walking through the night, seeing the sunrise and the wonder of seeing the finishing line coming in to view.

Moreover, and more importantly these challenges give me an opportunity to give something back to Macmillan. The Charity that has supported financially, emotionally and physically so many of my friends and family. This is my way of helping to make sure that Macmillan are able to keep supporting people through their diagnosis and treatment. I will be wearing my green Macmillan T-shirt on
each of these events with pride.

If you wonder what Macmillan will achieve with your sponsorship money..... please watch this link to a very short video they sent me.

Thank You Sue Shakespeare - YouTube

I hope that my walking boots and I can raise some much
needed funds for Macmillan. If you are able please support, and please share this link far and wide.
