Story
So, THIS is happening! I am turning 50 in July and want to celebrate in a BIG way! I signed myself up for a BIG challenge: The "Rock The Canyons" Challenge Oct 14th - 21st. For seven days, I will be hiking and camping in Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and The Grand Canyon. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone to raise money for cancer. This challenge is near and dear to my heart. Dad passed away from a long battle with stomach cancer in 2013. My Mom passed away from lung cancer two years later.
This challenge is organized through the Love Hope Strength Foundation. Founded in 2008 by Mike Peters of The Alarm. I have been a diehard fan of The Alarm since the 80's. The Alarm made a huge impression on me back then and continue to inspire me now. Mike Peters is a 3x cancer survivor. His wife, Jules has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Both Mike and Jules will be hiking and camping alongside myself and fellow trekkers. Long time friend (and Alarm fan), Dawn Piso will be joining me on this amazing experience. At the end of our week long trek, we celebrate with a private concert with The Alarm.
The first challenge, (before I slip into my hiking boots) is to raise $3500 by July 1st for The Love Hope Strength Foundation. The money raised will help fund LHS 3 grant programs:
1.) International Cancer Care - offering love, hope and strength to families affected by cancer in underprivileged areas of the world by supporting new equipment, facilities and specialist services in hospitals and in the community.
2.) The "Get On The List" Program - registering people on the international bone marrow donor list to help save lives.
3.) The New Equipment Program - changing lives in the US and UK through the provision of state of the art equipment in hospitals and health centers aimed at enhancing the care and treatment of people with cancer.
I would greatly appreciate any donation. Every little bit helps.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Much love,
Sue Waters
