Cardiac Risk in the Young Verified by JustGiving
RCN 1050845 (England & Wales), SC052581 (Scotland)
Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

This time last year I started running to raise money for a great friend in need, I was aiming to complete the Wycombe Half Marathon in under 3 hrs in her memory, no problem everyone said!!

Tragically, a week before the race I received a phone call to say that my mum had died unexpectedly in her sleep. There was no question in my mind that I was not going to complete the run, for both Candice and Mum; they were both so very proud of what myself and my brother were doing.

The race was the toughest thing I have ever completed, and yes.... i did complete it, but 7 minutes longer than my target! So here goes take two - Reading Half Marathon 20/03/2011 with my niece Gem and her boyfriend Jim - six months after mum died, and guaranteed to be under 3hrs!

Eventually we found out the mum had died from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, this is heart failure brought on by an irregular heartbeat, in the absence of any structural heart disease. Therefore it seems fitting that this time, the money I raise will go towards C-R-Y a charity that supports the families of SADs victims, through both screening and counselling, and have helped a number of people close to me.

Thanks for reading :o)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
