We are fighting to make a world where diabetes does no harm

Story

I had struggled with unrealistic expectations of myself around
striving for perfect blood glucose readings. Meeting many others living with Type 1, whilst volunteering on a Diabetes UK Family Weekend, opened my eyes to a far more relaxed approach. I needed to learn to do The Best That I Can wiithout allowing diabetes to dominate my life

I started having singing lessons with Joe at the end of 2019.  During lockdown these lessons moved online and I mentioned that I would like to write a song about living with T1, to celebrate my new ‘normal’ life. I had no idea how to do this, (which Joe quickly qualified with a
‘yet’). The lessons grew in length and through composing and arranging my song for voices and piano, I also learnt music theory.

At the end of lockdown I recorded the song with family and
friends, and most importantly my husband Jeremy who has been such a support and encouragement through the ups and downs of living with Type 1 , who provided us with some ‘essential’ percussion.

This song celebrates an acceptance that perfection is impossible when managing Type 1, with thanks to all the family and friends that have helped me to reach this new normal life, living with my diabetes.
