Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. People with autism have difficulties with everyday social interaction.
As most of you know, our youngest child, Thomas, who is 3 and a half, was diagnosed as having an Autistic Spectrum Disorder just over a year ago. His developmental delays mean that he is unable to do a lot of the things that other 3 year olds are able to do, and he is also non-verbal (meaning he does not speak), which obviously makes communication very difficult. Aswell as having Autism, Thomas also has Hypermobility (low muscle tone) in his ankles, knees and hips, which affects his ability to walk and his balance.
Thomas is an amazing, loving little boy, who we all adore, and we wanted to do something to support the National Autistic Society who do so much to help children, and adults, like Thomas.
Train Walk is the National Autistic Society's Thomas the Tank Engine themed sponsored walk for families. The money raised helps to support people affected by autism in our local area. Our local walk is at Bramcote Park in Nottingham, and is 1.25km. Hopefully Thomas will be able to walk the whole distance with us, but we will take his pushchair just in case!
