In 2017 my best friend in this world and bridesmaid was given the devastating news that she has Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
The cause of MND is not known, but a great deal of research is being carried out. There is only one drug approved for the treatment of MND where, for most people, it slows the progression of the disease delaying the onset of more serious symptoms and prolonging life by a matter of months (not years).
Since her diagnosis Sheila has shown the most incredible strength and determination to live her life to the full for as long as she possibly can. Days before Christmas, unfortunately, she was dealt a cruel setback after a tragic fall but is still showing the gritty determination we all love her for and is recovering well in hospital after lifesaving surgery to remove a blood clot in her head. It is from watching Sheila and how she is coping living with MND that I have been motivated to raise funds for the charity.
I chose a run in London, close to her, so that she could come and hurl abuse at me to get me round! When we were at Uni Sheila and I ran the Aberdeen 10km “Fun Run” so a run seemed a good way to show her my love and support.
