Story

On 1st August 2021 our 14 year daughter Izzy, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in a riding fall. She was put in an induced coma at the scene and taken by Great Western Air Ambulance to Bristol children's hospital which was the closest children's trauma unit.

We are one of the lucky families. Despite her severe injury she made a remarkable recovery. From being in a coma, within a month she had learnt to eat, talk and walk again and was allowed home.

The doctors said it would be a miracle if she was back at school in Sept but she was, albeit a few hours at a time with a full risk assessment and management plan. In 2023 she took her GCSE's with no additional allowances made for her injury.

On the face of it and compared to many others we are incredibly lucky but there are so many stages of recovery that patients and their loved ones go through. We found these unknown stages scary, sometimes terrifying, frustrating, the tiredness is debilitating, mental health is an ongoing concern and without the support of so many experts we could have had a very different outcome.

Unfortunately we saw first hand what people with brain injuries and their families go through and I want to raise as much as I can to help this incredibly important charity.

Please help with donating as much (or as little) as you can.

Thank you so much
