Story
I had a bit of a scare a few years ago. I was lucky, it wasn't great news, but it wasn't cancer. But for a couple weeks I didn't know, and that fear made me appreciate how truly, unbelievably horrific it is to hear that you have cancer and all that means in terms of: invasive treatment; and the impact of all this on the cancer victim, but also distraught families facing the loss of a Mum, Partner, Sister, and even a Daughter.
Ovarian cancer was my scare. It's known as the "silent killer". Of the 7,500 women each year eventually diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, 60% will die. That isn't right! So I'm getting on my bike to raise much needed funds for medical research and awareness training for doctors and women to improve survival rates. Together with a women-only team of cyclists, I'll be riding through Tanzania to support the work of three women's cancer charities: Ovarian Cancer Action; Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust; and Breast Cancer Care.
I'll be cycling approx 216 miles over 5 days - both on and off road - in rural Tanzania. There is even 2 camping stopovers. I need to raise a minimum of £3,000 to support the work of the Women V Cancer charities. I need you and your generosity to help me achieve that target. I know all of you will have either had your own brush with cancer, or will know someone who has. Cancer does not discriminate, and in some cases gives little warning. If you want to join me in doing something to combat this killer then please donate now on my JustGiving page.
