Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2003, when Kirstie was nine years old she got her first opportunity to visit the Honeypot House in Holbury. She had a wonderful time and came home really excited to tell me about what she had done. Kirstie was overjoyed to receive birthday and Christmas cards and presents. Kirstie visited the house four times in total and had numerous visits on the Honeypot bus both through the local carers centre and at the young carers festival. Kirstie was also lucky enough to be the 1000 Honeypot child in 2006, an honour that she has never forgotten.
In 2010 when Kirstie turned sixteen she asked if she could start raising money for Honeypot. She wanted to say thank you for everything that the charity had done for her and to help other young carers to have the opportunity to receive similar experiences. Our first fundraising activity was to take part in the Southampton Skyride. We completed two of the ten mile circuits dressed as bumble bees and enjoyed ourselves so much we agreed to take part in the 2011 event where we completed four circuits. We aim to continue to take part in this event and hope to encourage family and friends to join us.
Although Kirstie will not be the youngest person to take part in this year’s marathon at 18 years and 18 days she will finally be able to fulfil a lifelong ambition, to run the marathon, while raising money for the charity.
