Story
The University of Stirling Athletics Club Alumni are running a 24 hour relay starting on 28th September in memory of a former member of the club, Colin Dalziel.
Colin attended the University of Stirling from 2004-2008 studying Sports Studies. In this time Colin was an important member of the athletics club taking on various roles, including Cross Country Captain.
As part of the athletics club Colin took part and played a vital role in the organization and running of a 24 hour relay around Airthrey loch at the University to raise funds for the athletics club.
Everyone who met Colin found him to be a warm and generous person and a good friend to have. He was funny and charming and always made time for others. What wasn’t commonly known was that Colin suffered from mental health issues for a number of years and sadly took his own life earlier this summer.
In his memory a number of former University of Stirling Athletics Club members are going to reprise the 24 hour loch relay in September. We aim to raise awareness for mental health and support vital work done by the Scottish Association of Mental Health (SAMH). A bit on the event:
It lasts an entire day, no breaks!
One person will be running around the loch at any given second in this 24 hour period.
Many will be staying through the night with very little or no sleep (depends how much they like a hard, cold floor.)
We will try to have fun but as we have previously experienced with this, the early hours of the morning can be trying on no sleep and lots of running!
So if you can spare a few pounds, no matter how little, to this worthy cause and help us celebrate the memory of Colin please click on that donate button!
