We are rowing in the French vessel La Mondial which holds the current world record of 35days and 8hours set in 1992. We will face 50ft waves in the Atlantic swell and assorted underwater nasties that trail the human flotsom on the oceans surface. The sharks this far out to sea.. are BIG. Olympian James Crackness and TV presenter Ben Fogle participated in this same journey two years ago (filmed by the BBC) but since our attempt is gunning for the World Record, we will be unsupported in our crossing.
Here are some facts about neurological disorders.. Almost everyone knows a sufferer. Under 5% of people admitted to hospital with a stroke or head injury will ever see a specialist (Each year 130,000 of us have a stroke and 1,000,000 suffer a head injury). The Brain and Spine Foundation put a specialist at the end of the phone for any person affected by a neurological condition. The boxer Michael Watson is one of their patrons and I will hopefully be meeting him at the houses of parliament on behalf of the charity on November 21st.
Please chip in.. a penny a pound whatever you can afford. Every bit really does help.
Best wishes all.. and keep your fingers crossed for me!
