Story

Thanks for visiting my MacMillan Cancer Support Alps Cycling 2009 sponsorship page.

From 18-20th September, I completed three days of cycling up half a dozen of the toughest alpine passes, made famous on the Tour de France.   These include the Col de la Madeleine, the Col du Telegraphe, the Col du Galibier, and the legendary Alpe d'Huez.  These are the climbs that sort out the world's elite cycling pros.  It was quite a challenge, but 9 months of training made it do-able.  There's a flickr set of pictures to look at on http://www.flickr.com/photos/42899525@N06/sets/72157622448583820/.

I've watched the Tour de France on TV for many years, so it was a longstanding ambition of mine to go and find out how hard these climbs really are.   But also I have a personal link here.  My grandfather really benefited from the specialist care he received towards the end of his life when he died from cancer a few years ago.  Doing this event for Macmillan Cancer Support was one way of saying thanks.

I hope you can give something to sponsor me today - its in a great cause.

Thanks very much indeed

Stuart
