Story
FinalDescents.com is an expedition series that brings like-minded people together to make a difference to small global charities addressing planetary and societal issues.
The first expedition - 100km mountain decent (run, bike and water) in 24hrs in Bovec, Slovenia - aims to raise money for Atlantic Pacific(AP), a charity with a very simple ambition: to end global drowning. As one of the planets biggest killers, predominantly taking place in developing countries and under resourced communities, drowning is a cause of death that nobody deserves.
Its work is focused on the development of tools, like its Lifeboat in a Box (LIB), that can be provided to communities to establish their own means of rescue, as well as the training of Search & Rescue operatives.
Funds from Final Descents will be used to develop its next generation of rigid-hulled inflatable boat (Hahn Evolution) to be the best in-shore rescue boat. This will be used for deployment in developing countries as part of Atlantic Pacific's Lifeboat in a Box programme.
As well as a new rescue asset, Atlantic Pacific is looking into ways at constructing boats from recycled plastic, to make reproduction of these boats cheap and achievable for its partners located in countries which lack resource.
