Story
Welcome to the Stuart's JustGiving page...
Many of us have had friends and family that have been impacted by cancer. It's an unforgiving disease that could impact any one of us without warning. Personally within my family, my wife's father lost his battle when she was a child and then in more recent years her step father. During the last few years I am seeing more or more friends and family members who have been unexpectedly diagnosed with one of many forms of this terrible disease.
COVID has had a massive impact on all of our lives and the charities that many of us support. Cancer Research UK is no exception, it has had to cut its important research funding by £45 million, impacting dozens of potential life-saving projects. These cuts will have long-term effects. A shrinking research portfolio will not only slow down future breakthroughs for people with cancer but could seriously reduce the chances of reaching the charity’s goal of 3 in 4 people surviving their cancer by 2034.
This October I will be running the London Marathon in aid of this most worthy charity. This is the marathon that was moved from April 2020, to October 2020 and now 3rd October 2021. Training has been a hard slog - 18 weeks, totally around 600 miles over 75 hours by the time the race starts; destroyed 3 pairs of running shoes; dealt with a number of injuries and pain along the way and had to take 2 weeks out due to contracting COVID! I'm now as prepared as I can be for the big day and looking forward to getting it done!
Thank you for taking the time to read my JustGiving page. Anything you can donate to help this great cause will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Stuart
