Story
My name is Stuart Twigg of Ashingdon, Rochford, Essex aged 41. I work for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service as Sub Officer in charge of Green Watch, Rayleigh Weir Fire Station. I will be running the 2015 Chicago Marathon to raise funds for the Soldiers Charity and achieve the £1600 I pledged to raise for the 2015 London Marathon.
I served in the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment based predominantly in Fallingbostel, Germany. I took part in UN Tours in Cyprus and later volunteered for a secondment to 2 Royal Anglian Regiment, at that time based in Celle, Germany for Op Grapple 4 in Bosnia.
I have always maintained my Interest in what is happening within our Armed Forces and in many ways regret leaving after only a short period however, it gives me a sense of pride having served and now being in a position to support those still serving and their families.
In addition to this many ex-servicemen, women and their families rely on The Soldiers Charity for continuing support. I expect most people know someone somewhere who has been affected in someway by recent deployments or those still suffering from those deployments of many years ago. We owe it to these people and their families to give something back for what they have given us in their bravery.
I have seen the grief of colleagues and friends when loved ones have not returned or have but with life changing injuries. It is this that drives me to do my duty in ensuring those devastated people and families are given whatever support they require to literally Soldier On.
I kindly ask for any donation so that I can take part in this amazing event and ensure The Soldiers Charity is in a position to continue doing what it does best, being there for Soldiers, for life.
