Our story begins in 1993 when Dad first ran the Great North Run. In 1994, he returned to complete the run again and with a new PB of 1hr 51 there was no stopping dad.
Sadly in 2016 Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. This has been life changing for Dad and our family. Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition affecting the whole body. The condition will differ from patient to patient and can take years before it impacts on a person’s life. Dad has not been so lucky with the condition progressing quite rapidly resulting in major life changes.
While Dad may have hung up his running shoes, his passion for music and his beloved Dundee United has continued and his determination to live each day to its fullest.
Our dad is one of the most resilient, strong and compassionate men I know. Stuart, Richard and I are running the Great North Run with some of our closest friends, (Greg, Martin, Kirsty & Lucy) to raise money for Parkinson’s UK and for our dad. This money will help support the developments of vital research and medication for patients. It will also go towards the invaluable services that support patients and families. Dad has received incredible support from the Parkinson’s nurses, consultants, occupational therapists, physios, speech and language and a host of other services in our area and for that we are eternally grateful.
Please donate to our just-giving page to help us to raise as much money as we can to support Parkinson’s Uk and most importantly, our dad.
Please help to raise further awareness - and a better understanding of Parkinson’s - by sharing this link on your social pages.
