Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
A few months ago I decided I needed a challenge and set myself the target of completing the Guernsey Marathon. I had never run more than 10k at that stage, I am now attempting to run 4 times that distance.
By the time we get to race day I will have completed nearly 100 hours of training covering 500 miles (that's about 20 times round Guernsey), with 6am starts, late evening finishes, and limited alcohol. Surely these sacrifices from me are worth a small donation from you.
My chosen charity, Autism Guernsey, is dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by autism in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Autism Guernsey provides a range of services supporting those affected by autism while also raising public awareness and understanding of autism spectrum.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them. It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways. Some people with autism are able to live relatively independent lives but others may have accompanying learning difficulties and need a lifetime of specialist support, only 15% of adults with autism are in full time employment.
Autism is more common than most people realise with approximately 1 in every 100 of the UK population diagnosed with autism, males are 5 times more likely than females to be affected.
