Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our page and donate in memory of Stuart.
In January 2020, my husband Stuart was diagnosed with a glioblastoma - a fast growing and aggressive brain tumour. In spite of intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy (all of which was undertaken during lockdown, adding another level of complexity for him and our family during already difficult times) his brave fight came to an end when he passed away at home on 21st July 2020 surrounded by his family.
Over 55,000 people in the UK are currently living with a brain tumour and most are coping with a reduced quality of life. And whilst survival has doubled across all cancers, ten year survival rates for brain tumours have improved little for adults in over 40 years. 60% of people diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour will not survive one year and just 19% of adults will survive five or more years.
Survival rates for brain tumours remain amongst the poorest of all cancers. This must change.
Astonishingly, less than 2% of cancer research funding in the UK is spent on brain tumours.
In honour of Stuart, we want to directly help this cause by fundraising for the Brain Tumour Charity who are investing funding into research, improved early diagnosis and support for patients to access the best care possible. Their goal is to halve the average years of life lost to a brain tumour and to halve the harm caused by brain tumours in order to improve quality of life for more people.
We are planning to undertake a number of fundraising activities over the coming weeks and months. Watch this space...
Much love,
Barbara, Paul, Claire and family x
