Killimanjaro Climb · 7 July 2010
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've always wanted to climb Killimanjaro and now I'm going to do it. Many people have asked if I am doing it for charity so I thought I would.
Killimanjaro is in Tanzania and is the highest mountain in Africa and is the highest freestanding mountain in the world.
It's summit is 19,340 ft or 5895 m. The temperature drops to minus 26 degrees C at the summit!
I fly out on 7th July and plan to return on 18th July. The climb should take 6 days up and a couple down. We are camping on the way.
It'll be tough and although I can't prepare for the risks and effects related to altitude sickness, I've made sure that I'm fit. I've been going to the gym at least twice a week and on top of that I've been climbing the Wrekin every week too. The last couple of weeks I've climbed the Wrekin twice and yes that means as soon as I've got back down, I've gone straight back up!
Many people during their lives are affected by cancer either themselves or close friends or family. Hopefully by doing this climb I can make a small difference. I've paid for the trip and all of the attributed costs myself. Everything donated will go to Cancer research and If you are a UK tax payer and click the gift aid option then a little extra gets added at no extra cost to yourself!
Hopefully the thought of me freezing my taters off or my lungs bursting for oxygen is enough to get you to put your hands in your pockets to donate to a worthy cause!
Thanks for visiting this page!
On 15/7/10 at 6:25am I reached the summit of Uhuru peak. Thanks to all of your donations, these really gave me the additional push required to get to the top!
Hopefully the money will help towards finding cures for Cancer!
