24th May blog... Re: The Stu's London Marathon
I just wanted to let you all know with your help I've raised £4870.04 towards my London Marathon event for my chosen cause Cancer Research Wales (CRW). Though still pushing to get to £5000.00, hey that’s the fundraiser in me!
Again, I’m overwhelmed with the continued support you guys have offered in donating and turning up at various fundraising events in the lead up and post the marathon, as always a huge thank you.
As most people will know, for me it’s all about raising awareness but more importantly much needed funds for a charity close to my heart. However it would not be possible without your generosity, together we are helping to make a positive difference in the fight against this terrible disease.
I’ve seen at first-hand how crippling this disease can directly affect so many lives, so the money raised will help towards the 2.5 million CRW require every year to continue the high calibre research projects which has the potential to benefit millions of lives now and in the future.
Once again, many thanks for all your support to date, though it's not too late to donate to CRW, get involved guys http://www.justgiving.com/Stuart-Barry1 and please share, thank you xx
The Marathon
Here I go again raising money for a good cause.
My Event...
I’m running another London Marathon, yes call me mad but it's all worth the hard graft to raise money for a cause close to my heart.
Once again, I’ll be lacing up the daps and squeezing into my lycra to help raise awareness and much need funds for Cancer Research Wales.
Training has commenced “which is a good start” so if you see me running the streets then please bear the thought that I’m doing it for a few reasons one to raise as much money for my chosen cause, and the other because I love being out in the cold, rainy dark nights through the winter, NOT - Ha-ha!
Which reminds me that this training doesn’t get any easier especially at my age and being overweight certainly doesn't help, but I'm getting there!
Now to the serious bit, please read on!
My Cause...
Cancer Research Wales will benefit from my fundraising efforts on the lead-up to marathon.
To reach my fundraising goal I will be organising various charity events to help me reach my target.
Raising as much as possible for my cause is important and one I'm extremely passionate about. I've set an achievable goal of £3000 which I believe with your support I can achieve.
Giving something back is so important in helping to fund future research to support individuals, family and friends who have been touched by this terrible disease.
The research that Cancer Research Wales are conducting has the potential to benefit so many lives today and ones in the future. They rely totally on the generosity of you the general public to help raise £2 Million they currently require every year to meet their commitments.
By donating to Cancer Research Wales you will help to fund pioneering research projects carried out by internationally renowned scientists and PhD students, which has the potential to benefit millions of lives worldwide as well as in our local community.
You can make a difference, so any support little or large would be greatly received either donating to this page or offering a auction/raffle prize to one of my up coming charity events.
My next event will be on Easter Sunday at Merthyr Labour Club "The Club of Love" so if you would kindly like to donate a prize then please feel free to get in touch via stubarry1@gmail.com - Thank you!
And Why, My Inspiration...
Every fundraiser has a story, and mine is no different to anyone else who has lost a loved one to cancer.
It's been seven years since Lisa was taken from this world, but it seems like only yesterday, though happy memories and thoughts still live on and will always.
Lisa battled her condition in a positive dignified manner and was an active fundraiser through her illness for Cancer Research Wales, as she always strived to give something back to help others who lives are directly affected by cancer.
People whom had the pleasure to have known Lisa, then you will have a smile on your face and a warm glow inside reading this, as I know she will!
Hopefully you agree, the forthcoming events and marathon will be a fitting tribute to her ongoing legacy.
