Story
On the evening of May 14, 2020, with a lifetime of keeping fit, I went out for a training cycle and experienced a stroke when a blood vessel exploded in the left side of my brain.
I observed my own mind deteriorating as the right side of my face had palsy (dropped), my right arm and leg were weak and had paralysis, my speech was affected (aphasic), as well noticeable loss to cognitive capabilities.
As a former Royal Marine Commando with a 'Marine mind set', I embraced my situation to tackle the journey of recovery. However, I could not tackle this journey on my own. It was with thanks to the NHS and especially to the volunteers from CHSS (Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland) that my rehabilitation and recovery has enabled me to return to work and attempt this challenge.
On the day after the first anniversary of my stroke, I've challenged myself to cycle from East Lothian to North Berwick and then through Mid Lothian to arrive at West Lothian. A total of approximately 58 miles in aid of CHSS for the generous help given to me and other stroke survivors.
Accomplishing this challenge will also give hope to other stroke survivors that you can change the course of your life after a stroke.
Please give generously.
