Story
Our beloved husband, dad, son, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, suffered a fatal stroke on the 25th June 2023.
Anthony James Bundy, Tony, was a fit and healthy 53-year-old and had so much to live for. He was a joy to be around and everyone and anyone he ever met, bounced off his positive and joyful presence. Unfortunately, his time on this earth was cut short due to misdiagnosis of a Basilar Artery Ischaemic Stroke.
Our job as a family is to bring awareness and prevent this from happening to anyone else.
Tony was out shopping on the 25th June when he took a “funny turn”. His symptoms included: vertigo, dizziness, cold sweats, nausea, vomiting, slow speech and inability to stand.
Tony was then blue-lighted to hospital at around 5pm where he was made to wait in a corridor until around 10:30pm when he took his fatal stroke. Tony was then taken for a CT scan before being rushed to a specialist hospital.
Tony didn’t regain consciousness after the Sunday evening. He was on life support until Thursday 29th June when he sadly passed away surrounded by his close family and friends.
Only a couple weeks before this event, Tony presented himself to a GP. He had a similar “funny turn” at work so wanted to rule anything out but told the GP he was worried that he had had a minor stroke.
Whilst we shall never know, there is a real possibility that Tony would still be with his family and friends on this earth if either the GP had sent him for further tests, or medical staff at the first hospital understood the seriousness of Tony’s situation.
Our aim, as a family, is to get justice for Tony.
No other person, and their families, should have to experience what Tony and his family has experienced.
That’s why we want to raise awareness amongst people that Face, Arms, and Speech – known as “FAST” - are not the only symptoms of a potential stroke, but that there are others, such as: vertigo, dizziness, cold sweats, nausea, vomiting, slow speech and inability to stand.
Just because you can lift your arms, doesn’t mean you’re not having a stroke.
I, Anthea Bundy (Tony's daughter), will be taking part in the 10K Great Scottish Run on Sunday October 1st 2023 in Memory of My Dad.
This page will also be used for the Great Scottish Run donations.
