Story
Hello everyone! I'm Fran and I'm the Team Leader of the Leicester StreetDoctors Team.
We are a group of Medical Students at Leicester University who teach young people at risk of knife and gun crime life saving first aid. We currently work with Leicestershire County Council Youth Offending Team, the Leicester Tigers Hitz scheme and with Leicester City Football Club, to deliver teaching sessions in Leicester and the surrounding areas.
To raise money for the charity we are all enlisted for Leicester's Big 10K in Abby Park on the 30th April this year. We have all been training for this very hard and are excited to go around the course in our red StreetDoctors t-shirts as a team.
We are from all different backgrounds, some of us having grown up in areas where there are considerable issues with violent crime. Everyone of us is dedicated to eradicating youth violence, and teaching these vulnerable young people.
If you are interested in the work that we do, please have a look at our Twitter Page @SDLeicester or our Facebook @LeicesterStreetDoctors.
At our last fundraising event on International Re-start the Heart Day, we taught 135 Leicester University Students CPR, which resulted in one student being able to assist in a cardiac arrest due to the teaching they received that day. We are hoping that this fundraiser is as successful as the last one, so we can keep teaching these life saving skills to the people who need them most.
